Tucson is home to one of the largest retiree population in the US. Many retirees are highly skilled individuals who are still very active and motivated. Most have a life time of experience working in engineering, artistic or scientific areas, experience that could be brought to bear on challenging questions that Neuroscientists across our campus are seeking to answer. The goal of this program is to bring together this highly skilled but less active workforce with UA Neuroscience laboratories eager to expand their multi-disciplinary research capabilities.
This pilot program will allow senior individuals retirees 55 and over, with various professional backgrounds, to work as interns in Neuroscience laboratories at the University of Arizona. Four selected fellows will spend the summer 2009 in a host laboratory on campus, and will help with the conduct of experiments, the analyses of data and with all other aspects of laboratory life. This program is based on voluteer work (no stipend, but $300 will be awarded to offset basic fees and transportation costs).

Please provide a resume and a 2 page statement including: a description of your professional background and a statement that will tells us why you are interested in neuroscience and what you hope to learn over the summer. Note: The time commitment for a research project varies greatly from laboratory to laboratory and in general, is negotiable. About 20 hours per week are expected. Applicants are invited to indicate in their statement any constraints (e.g. time, physical) they might have, so that host laboratories can plan accordingly.
Selection process: Applications will be reviewed throughout the summer. Placement in a laboratory is subject to availability and adequacy of the candidate.
